Talks at this conference (Steve Freers, 2003, 2004) and elsewhere (Robert Mark and Evelyn Billo, AIRA v28) have demonstrated spectacular improvements in the visualization of faded pictographs using digital techniques.
The enhancement techniques overcome human limitations in low contrast color perception.
